KNYSNA NEWS - A sombre atmosphere hung over Fraaisig Primary School on Friday 15 May as learners, teachers and staff gathered for a special assembly in remembrance of 10-year-old Mahlubandile 'Mahlubi' Mbombo, who tragically lost his life in a house fire last week. Mahlubi, a Grade Three learner at the school, will be laid to rest today, Thursday 21 May.
The young boy's untimely death has left the school community heartbroken, with many describing him as a cheerful and well-loved child whose bright smile touched those around him.
During the assembly, emotional tributes were shared, while learners and educators observed moments of reflection and prayer for his grieving family.
Teachers comforted classmates who struggled to come to terms with the loss of their friend.
It is believed that Mahlubi's father, who sustained severe burn wounds to his face and hands while trying to save his son during the blaze, remains in intensive care in an induced coma and will be unable to attend the funeral.
"It was a very sad morning, and our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to such a precious boy," the school shared.
Although the community continues to mourn, many found comfort in remembering Mahlubi's joyful spirit and the happiness he brought to others.
"Fly high, sweet boy. You will always be remembered."
