PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Plettenberg Bay Country Club (PBCC) has secured the honour of hosting the Sunshine Tour's SA Senior Open for the next three years, boosting golfing tourism to the Garden Route.
Tyler Chislett, general manager of the PBCC, informed members of the club on 29 August that the club will host this prestigious event as a main attraction on the Senior Sunshine Tour.
The host for the tournament will be James Kingston, who became a two-time SA national champion after winning the SA Senior Open, hosted by Bitou Municipality, in emphatic style with a birdie finish at Plettenberg Bay Country Club in October 2019.
While on tour, Kingston proudly displays the PBCC logo on his golf bag.
Hidden gem
The SA Senior Open takes place between 9 and 12 December. "It is well known that Plettenberg Bay Country Club has spent the last three years rejuvenating the 'Hidden Gem' on the Garden Route, focusing a large amount of resources [on] environmentally restoring the natural and indigenous beauty of the golf course," said Chislett.
"The preparation for the season as well as the tour event is well under way and our members, the players, and patrons can expect the course to be in the best possible condition."
Pro-am
Chislett, who will be responsible for the event, said it promises to be an engaging and memorable occasion for Plettenberg Bay, bringing together the local community and showcasing the beautiful town and fantastic golf course.
Two of the days will be Pro-am events where members and guests will be paired to play with two professionals in a four-ball.
Chislett said further details, including the programme and any special guests, will be made available shortly.
He encouraged members to "save the date and spread the word".
