SEGEFIELD NEWS - Pic n Pay Sedgefield Eagle Stars RFC continued their impressive form last Saturday in the 2026 First Division A competition with victories over Multisure Knysna United RFC at the Grassy Park sports grounds in Sedgefield.

The Eagle Stars A team produced an attacking display to claim a convincing 40-23 victory after leading 16-8 at halftime. 

The home side ran in six tries as the backs and forwards combined effectively throughout the encounter.

Averon Jaftha opened the scoring with a well-worked try before Elrich Grootboom crossed the whitewash twice to place Knysna United under sustained pressure. Substitute Markham Hartnick also made an impact off the bench with a try of his own.

Replacement back Diaan Godfrey added further points, scoring a try and converting two kicks, while Royston Dirk rounded off the scoring late in the match to cap an excellent all-round performance.

The Eagle Stars forward pack laid a solid platform at the set pieces and breakdowns, while the backline made full use of space out wide through quick ball movement and effective support play. The substitutes also played an important role in maintaining the tempo during the second half.

Earlier in the day, Eagle Stars’ B side secured a 20-7 victory over Knysna United in difficult conditions.

The home side led 10-0 at halftime before producing another disciplined second-half performance to close out the match. 

Eagle Stars crossed for two tries and made good use of their goal-kicking opportunities to keep the visitors under pressure throughout the encounter.

Forward Ramon Kige powered over for one of the home side’s tries, while captain Chesco Jules guided the team with accurate goal-kicking through conversions and penalties.

The Eagle Stars defence stood firm for most of the match, restricting Knysna United to a single try as the Sedgefield outfit controlled possession and territory for long periods.
