GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - South Western Districts Cricket recently received an important financial injection of R2 104 500 from the National Lotteries Commission Trust Fund.
According to Albertus Kennedy, SWD Cricket chief executive officer, this allocation was awarded based on the last application.
The funding makes provision for specific projects that include the increase of participation, the advancement of women, disability cricket, and capacity-building programmes that focus on various components such as staff capacity building.
"The allocation is aimed to provide assistance to programmes covering all the geographical areas in the province and is greatly welcomed in times where income revenue streams remain very important to promote cricket programmes," Kennedy says.
Over the past years, SWD Cricket benefited from various Lotto projects, including an allocation in 2010 that allowed the union to construct the office complex, clubhouse and changing rooms at the REC in Oudtshoorn.
According to Kennedy, applications are adjudicated based on efficient and sustainable business plans as well as sound corporate and financial governance by applicants.
In his response, the chairperson of the board, Michael Eksteen, thanked the National Lotteries Commission for its financial support in allowing SWD Cricket to achieve its mission of providing opportunities for effective and active participation of all members and to enhance a competitive cricket culture.
He also congratulated the management staff for the submission of a successful application and for maintaining high levels of corporate governance.
