Update
KNYSNA NEWS - No timeframe has been given regarding the decision by local government MEC Anton Bredell on whether Ward 4 councillor Velile Waxa will be removed from council after being found guilty of breaching the code of conduct for councillors.
The MEC's office said this week that submissions have been received from Waxa via his attorney and based thereon, a decision will be made. "It is therefore premature to make any comments on the decision, as the MEC for local government will need to examine the evidence and comments of councillor Waxa before making any determinations in this matter," reads a statement from Bredell's office.
During a council meeting on 2 July, a disciplinary committee recommended that council request the local government minister to remove the councillor from office.
Waxa has been in police custody since his arrest on 16 August in connection with the murder of Ward 8 councillor Victor Molosi in July.
