Knysna tourism's new home

KNYSNA NEWS - Following a fire at the Knysna tourism offices in 40 Main Street at about 19:00 on Tuesday, September 20, tourism entity Knysna & Partners have moved their premises to Village Mall.

The fire, which was extinguished at about 19:51, was caused by an electrical fault and did significant enough damage that the premises are not presently viable.

Knysna & Partners' chief executive Greg Vogt said that until further notice this is where all tourism business will be conducted.

The premises are cheerful, welcoming to guests and Vogt thanked the management of Village Mall for their help.

"The Knysna & Partners team are finally up and running in their new premises. While having taken occupation of the premises in the Knysna Mall, next to the pharmacy near Spar, the team were finally connected today, Tuesday, October 11.

“It has been encouraging to see visitors enjoying the iconic views of The Heads (if viewed from the N2) and the forest (if viewed from the Spar parking). We now await news from the powers that be to inform us of the process and time it will take to repair the offices at 40 Main Street.

"We have to offer our gratitude to the many well-wishers who popped in to motivate us in our endeavour to maintain a service to the public," explained Knysna & Partners' chairperson Ypie Kingma.

Vogt stressed how proud he is of the team – “who did not skip a beat when challenged with the obstacles brought on by the fire”.

Preparations for the Knysna Timber Festival and Leisure Isle Festival are well under way and the team is back in the saddle, very happy that they are "connected" again. We look forward to our next gathering with our members, to share the exciting progress we have made in the various facets of marketing our destination, the dates of which we will be sharing with you all very soon.”
