But as all his friends and fans know, André van Zijl, well-know Knysna HIV/Aids-activist, is no ordinary individual.
Van Zijl has agreed to stay put in the Ford Figo for two months on the agreement that once he has completed his feat, the car will be donated to the Helping Angels Organisation. This organisation deals with 27 Caucasian squatter camps around Pretoria and Johannesburg. So far he has managed to raise R10 000 for the cause.
Previously Van Zijl managed to survive and remain sane ("Relatively!" he laughs) in a car for 40 days and thereafter in another challenge, for 50 days. This time he got into the tiny vehicle on May 23 at the Irene Village Mall, Centurion, and he will only get out on July 23.
To keep fit and healthy, Van Zijl uses a spinning bike. Without physically leaving the cramped enclosure of the Ford Figo, he has completed close to 2 500km on the bike.
