KNYSNA NEWS - George Rex Veterinary Clinic has welcomed Doctor Herman Steenkamp, Sister Treacy Steenkamp and their two children Emily and Liam to the clinic's staff and extended family.
The Steenkamps make the move to Knysna having spent 13 years in Johannesburg where Dr Herman was full partner at a very busy and successful practice while Sr Treacy had taken on the role of practice manager.
Dr Herman and his Jo'burg practice featured frequently on popular VIA TV programme DiereDokters during his time at the practice.
Prior to their stint in Johannesburg Dr Herman and Sr Treacy had plied their trade in Essex, United Kingdom, for 10 years, during which time their relationship bloomed.
"We both studied at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, so we had already met before, but we really grew a lot closer while in the UK," Sr Treacy said.
After thoroughly enjoying their time in the UK where they gained invaluable experience in the industry, the couple elected to move back to SA to settle down and start a family. They got married in Johannesburg in 2009 and a couple of years later welcomed their eldest child, Emily (11), with Liam (9) arriving two years later.
Over time they found themselves visiting Knysna and the Garden Route often, either as a holiday destination or to spend time with family members in George. They even purchased a flat in Knysna a few years ago, and started toying with the idea of one day moving to Knysna.
Eventually, the idea came to fruition early this year when Dr Herman elected to join the George Rex Veterinary Clinic as its newest team member.
"We wanted our children to be able to enjoy growing up in a more relaxed and outdoors environment, so that played a big part in the decision," Dr Herman explained.
"But, over and above that, I really wanted to bring the experience I have garnered over the past two decades to a team where such good work is already being done and I can simply latch on to them."
Dr Herman has a special interest in orthopaedics and is very passionate about patient care and preventative medicine.
He is looking forward to what lies ahead.
"We hope to really grow the practice, and to expand the services we are able to offer to the people of Knysna and surrounds. There is a lot of potential for growth and with Dr Pieter Jordaan and the team here I cannot wait to see what lies in store for us."
