KNYSNA BUSINESS NEWS - The Oaks on Main landmark building in Knysna is on the verge of a rebirth and exciting plans are in place to ignite a revival of serene feelings, great food, soothing entertainment and something for the whole family.
Nestled along Knysna's Main road, Oaks on Main has for over a century been a recognisable part of the town. It was a family home from 1943 to the well-known and respected Tidswell family until 2002, and then it was the venue for a funky hippie market with a famous restaurant.
In recent years the building was neglected and unkept - but since last year a transformation is taking place that brings with it flashbacks of an era almost forgotten.
New owners André and Margot Paulsen are slowly but surely recreating that special vibe and atmosphere many locals will recall - something that everyone, from locals to visitors, will keep coming back to.
From being an ambient place to enjoy a meal, browse through speciality shops and drink a cup of coffee, to the hustle and bustle of weekend markets, and not forgetting the experience of tranquil live music on selected evenings, Oaks on Main is simply taking back the space it once so proudly embraced.
They've fixed and repaired the entire premises. By the end of last year, a restaurant opened and has already hosted a new years party, fundraisers, 'langarm' dances, dinner parties, children’s puppet shows as well as private functions – most of which took place in the unique setting of the courtyard in the garden.
More recently, they've proudly announced the opening of Snobs Coffee shop, an artisan shoe repair and design store, woodcraft, as well as a little music lessons and repairs shop.

Margot says that they have exciting plans for the future and to get to where they want to be, they've made available six shops of varying sizes, from 9m² to 66m² and they invite potential tenants to bring something special to Oaks on Main.“We will be giving preference to speciality shops, that can easily fit in the whole atmosphere, open seven days a week and contribute to the ambience, serenity and visually attractive space that we already are,” she said, stressing that they are looking for something unique. Limited office space is also available.
Interested tenants can contact Tina Freimuth at 083 4611 119.
Look out for the SUNDAY MARKET at Oaks on Main that takes place on the last Sunday of every month starting 26 August 2018. Anyone interested in having a stall at the monthly market can contact Sue Wesdorp on 082 962 4116. LIVE MUSIC events will also be advertised regularly. If you love to jam or just enjoy the music, join Giorgio & Lauren for a jamming session on Saturday 7 July from 5 – 20:00 at Oaks on Main.
We are looking to make this a monthly event at this unique venue.
