GARDEN ROUTE NEWSFLASH - Knysna municipality will today, Monday, August 14 provide an update on an investigation conducted into the cause of the fires that swept through Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
Seven people died and hundreds were left homeless after their homes were razed to the ground when the fire broke out on June 7 and carried on burning.
It is still not known exactly how many homes were affected and in what areas, but these official statistics are expected to be given by the municipality today.
There have been allegations on social media about arson, but other reports saying that the heat, wind and drought contributed to conditions perfect for the fire spreading the way it did.
Residents have been asking for answers as to how this disaster started and how the fire spread.
At 14:00 today, the town’s mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies and municipal manager Kam Chetty will release the official Knysna fire report.
