KNYSNA FOOTBALL NEWS – Matters are heating up at the top of the KLFA Domestic League table with Flamingo and Red Eagles still separated by only goal difference after last weekend's matches.
At the end of the previous round of fixtures on Saturday 29 May, Flamingo had climbed to the top of the log, taking over first place from Young Stars. They were level on points with Red Eagles, separated by only three goals in the goal difference.
Both sides would have been hoping to take the solo lead during their fixtures scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, 5 and 6 June.
The 18 Domestic League games were split up between two venues, Loerie Park and the turf in Smutsville.
On Saturday the spotlight was on the fight to avoid relegation, with four of the bottom five teams playing their fixtures. African Roots were able to lift themselves off the foot of the table with a win against Slow Town, who failed to win either of their games.
The battle for supremacy at the other end of the table was on show on Sunday as Red Eagles and Flamingo were both in action. Flamingo firmly stamped their authority and showed their intent to fight for the title with the biggest win of the 2020/21 season so far, thumping Hot Stars 13-1.
Flamingo also won their second game against African Eagles 3-0. Meanwhile, Red Eagles triumphed 2-1 over Two For Joy and 4-2 against Young Stars to stay level on points with Flamingo.
The Knysna Local Football Association (KLFA) Domestic League was the main action of the weekend, as only one game was scheduled for the KLFA Super League. In their final catch-up game, Crossroads were billed to take on Warriors at Loerie Park on Sunday.
The game's early stages were close, with neither side able to make use of the chances they created. Crossroads took the spoils however, winning 3-1 to go top of the Super League standings, level on points with Voota but ahead on goal difference.
