KNYSNA NEWS FLASH - Contrary to earlier reports, the four children who were on the bus that overturned in Diepwalle this morning, were injured. The children were taken to a Knysna hospital.
Nandi Mgwadlamba, communications manager for SANParks Garden Route said the school bus was collecting learners from two schools in the Diepwalle area when the accident happened.
“The school bus was picking up learners from two venues in Diepwalle when it overturned this morning. There were four children on the bus when the accident happened,” confirmed Mgwadlamba.
Mgwadlamba said the learners who were on the bus were from Buffelsnek from an MTO/Cape Pine staff village and the bus was on its way to a second destination to collect more school children. They attend a school in town.
The accident happened before the second pick-up point, before 08:00 this morning.
Paddy Gordon, park manager of the GRNP said SANParks will partner with MTO/Cape Pine and SAPS to investigate the matter as the safety of children is a priority.
The extent of the injuries of the children in hospital, ages and other information about them, is not yet known.
