Knysna-Plett Herald surprises deputy mayor with good news
Romeo St Claire Koeberg
PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Knysna-Plett Herald just had the honour of breaking the news to Romeo St Claire Koeberg, the Bitou COPE number one proportional member, that he will be sworn in as the new COPE councillor.
He was also informed that he will be Bitou's new deputy executive mayor.
The Bitou Municipality's communication official Howard Swartz released a press release this morning (Friday, January 30) stating: "Please be advised that as prescribed in item 18 of Schedule 1 of the Municipal Structures Act, 1998 (Act No. 117 of 1998), that Koeberg, being the candidate at the top of the party list for the Congress of the People (COPE), has been declared elected to Bitou Municipality."
Councillor Koeberg replaces Adam Brendon Van Rhyner who was recently suspended by his party.
A speechless and overwhelmed Koeberg was stunned by this news and said: "You're telling me something now that I did not know. I've just been informed by a journalist that I'm the new Bitou councillor!" On the issue of being the next deputy mayor to be, he was absolutely speechless.
When told that we also received a photo of him and "I even know how you look sir," he could not help laughing in his state of joy. Koeberg was caught absolutely offside and asked some time before he can comment on how he will serve the community.
