PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The N2 between the Shell garage and Kwanokuthula in Plettenberg Bay remains closed due to rioting which broke out last night and continues this morning. The Bitou Municipality has labeled the situation as “volatile” and warned motorists to avoid the area.
“The situation remains volatile, there are reports that the rioters are attacking private property. POPS (Public Order Policing) are still on the scene,” the municipality’s communication team said this morning.
The protest is believed to be about unhappiness about the electrification process of the Qolweni housing project.
Motorists are urged to use Airport Road as an alternative route, but to be cautious as there are currently large volumes of vehicles using the road.
