The social conventions of the photographic world

This week we take a look at the social conventions of the photographic world.

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to have been invited by the PE Photographic Club on an outing to Storms River.

Having received my new camera, the Olympus OMD Em5 - literally an hour before leaving - I was in high spirits for a fun-filled trip away.

Now normally speaking, when you put two or more photographically minded people in a room together, the conversation can get a little technical.

Now try about a dozen or so like-minded people around a campfire with a few beverages to hand and you will need a translator.

To an outsider listening in, or the folk camping next door, you would imagine we come from a different planet. It's almost as if we have created our own dialect and all seems to be fluent in it world-wide. Normally, as an artist or a professional photographer, one tries to hold on to the secrets one has learnt, but not at a social gathering like this...

So the point I'm trying to make is get your local "Photo Buddies" together and head out for a weekend of relaxed shooting, nothing too serious, and see what you can learn via conversation. On the camera side of things, I was rather impressed with my new toy and will be posting a full review of the new age camera on our site in the near future.

Cheers, Warren & Ian
