|KNYSNA NEWS FLASH - The plea bargain agreement between the state and Knysna ex-broker, Michael Toerien, has been withdrawn.|
The trial is said to begin tomorrow, May 17, in George after the stakeholders met at the Knysna police precinct on Monday, May 14.
According to the chief investigating officer, Captain RP van der Westhuizen of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in George, there are 24 complainants. He says that the defence has indicated that Toerien wishes to plead guilty on all charges.
Toerien was arrested on May 19, 2011 at his Knysna home on multiple charges of fraud and theft, his clients - many of them previous friends - alleging that he misappropriated their investments to the estimated amount of R20 million.
