The proposal is aimed at upgrading the green that would act as an amphitheater and bring back the indigenous garden, which includes a scented garden allowing for a place the blind could enjoy. "Very similar to what is offered at the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens," said Petricia Pieterse, Masithandani mosaic project manager.
Tempers flared as Hart tried to explain that none of the proposed mosaics nor upmarket ablution block plans had been submitted.
"I called this meeting as a courtesy to the closest residents to inform them of the intention of the upgrade," said Hart.
Residents would not allow her or Jacky Weaver, Masithandani project manager, to explain how and why the development came about.
Doug Watson, a British national who lives in Sedgefield for the summer months, got so hot under the collar that he started referring to Hart and the Masithandani team as "you lot".
Previous Sedgefield mayor Mike Young addressed the angry residents confirming that the meeting was an informal meeting. "This meeting was called to speak to you before it goes to the public participation process."
Young’s words fell on deaf ears as those present seemed past the stage of listening to reason.
