About 4000 residents signed a petition against the release of 18-year-old Lulama Candani who is accused of slitting eight-year-old Sesona Bhayibihle's throat and dumping her body near her home in Bossiegif in December last year.
Candani, seven months after his arrest on December 9, recently informed the court that he wanted to apply for bail.
This moved sparked massive outcry from the anti-child abuse groups who started a campaign to place pressure on the court not to release the suspect on bail. This included a protest outside the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on Friday September 11 and a petition.
