The explosion caused injury to three men, employees of Nolan's Carpets Plettenberg Bay. They were immediately taken to hospital.
"The guys from Plett Medi-clinc were incredible. They were at the scene within minutes and they did everything they could possibly have done. We are very grateful to them," said Marco Lamberti, owner of Nolan's Carpets Plett.
Mark Peterson's injuries proved to be fatal and he lost his life in hospital on Friday morning, December 5.
“Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," said Lamberti. Nielan Bradley Jacobs and Hermanus Fredericks are expected to recover from their injuries. "We are not sure exactly what happened yet; there is currently an investigation underway," said Lamberti.
Bitou Municipal Spokesperson, Kholiswa Masiza, confirmed that an investigation is currently underway. She was not at liberty to disclose any further information.
