Library week celebrated in style
Some of the books that will be on display, reflecting on "The Story Of Southern Africa", Wednesday, March 22 to Friday, March 24, 10:00 to 14:00.
KNYSNA NEWS - Library Week, from March 18 to 25, is celebrated by libraries across the country each year to promote library services and literacy and the benefits of reading.

This year the theme is “My library, your library”.

The Knysna library, in collaboration with Friends of the Knysna Libraries, has organised a week-long programme ranging from storytelling, book sales, meeting the author, an exhibition of books and a discussion session by a local children’s book author.

“We are hoping to get as many learners as possible,” said Friend of the Knysna Libraries Johann Vosloo, who will be doing a small book exhibition. “On display will be some books about the rich history of the country and some classic books as well, but more than anything, what we’re hoping to do is entice the young long enough to show them that books are still the source of information – be it teaching about history or giving a sense of escapism, we want to promote reading.”

Some of authors to look forward to and who will be sharing their stories will be Lynn le Roux and children’s book author Bev Moodie, who has over three decades’ worth of experience as a writer.

At the same venue the Friends of the Knysna Libraries will exhibit "International – classic, popular & award-winning books".

The Friends will also have a book sale in the library courtyard on Wednesday, March 22, 10:00 to 14:00. Donations of books, LPs ,CDs and magazines most welcome. To arrange collection, phone Johann Vosloo on082-936-5104.

The storytelling that was scheduled for Monday, March 20 has been postponed to Friday March 24 due to the lack of attendance.
