The Knysna Golf Club’s new practice facility should, weather permitting, be open in October.

KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Golf Club is currently undergoing major upgrading work to its practice facilities.
A week after a devastating fire destroyed the original Knysna Golf Club's clubhouse (in January 2010, a mere two weeks after the club's centenary celebrations), the club erected a temporary clubhouse. This site is now being prepared for a new practice facility, budgeted to cost R248 000.
This practice facilities will consist of putting, pitching and chipping greens. The putting green will be undulating and seeded with the same grass found on most of the actual greens on the course (Bentgrass). The area around both greens will be seeded with Kikuyu, the dominant grass on the Knysna Golf Course fairways. The chipping green, like the putting green, will have several holes towards which the ball could be played. The existing practice bunker will now have easier access as it will be integrated into the new practice facilities.
"The entire practice area will cover approximately 400m², which gives players not only the option to warm up before a round of golf, but for the over 1 000 members of the club to practice their short game regardless of playing a round or not," explained Quinten Webster, Knysna Golf Club manager.
To date the grounds have been landscaped, the drainage and borders separating the greens and the rest of the practice area have been put in place and the greens have been seeded. "Depending on the weather in the next couple of months, the new practice facilities should be ready for use by October," concluded Webster.
