KeNako Holiday Camp fun for young golfers
12:43 (GMT+2), Tue, 10 July 2012
SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Another successful winter holiday camp was presented by the KeNako team this past week. Youngsters from places as far afield as Kimberley, Benoni, Somerset West and George attended a week that was not only about enjoying golf but also about having fun away from the golf course.

From a golfing perspective, the players had their swings analysed by Roger Wessels and were given drills to use in practice for correcting the errors that were identified. Making changes and then implementing them immediately on the golf course is no easy task. In reality, making a change to one's golf swing is generally a fairly long process, so the students left the KeNako Holiday Camp with a better understanding of their golf swing as well as positive changes that they can implement as they return home.

George is known for its wonderful golf courses and the 'Holiday Campers' had the pleasure of playing George Golf Club, Kingswood Golf Estate and the tight, challenging nine hole Dolphins Creek course nestled amongst the dunes in Great Brak.

They also had short game instruction from Wessels, followed by a short game skills test. This test was thoroughly enjoyed by all and won by Lyle Mills from Kimberley who holed his chip shot on the last hole to win by one. The winning golfer on Friday was local lad, Riaan Grootboom, who beat Keanan Aysen from Kimberley.

Activity and Life Skills are what KeNako's Holiday Camps are about. In spite of some unpleasant weather, the Campers went zip-lining on the obstacle course at Timberlake, which they found challenging, yet they had a lot of laughs. Fortunately there was indoor activities as well, which included Ten Pin bowling.

KeNako's chef, Rob Douglas, was as always also involved in the Holiday Camp programme, and taught the boys how to make his tasty fish cakes - sure to impress their families when they get home.

According to the KeNako staff, it was great hosting the youngsters from around the country at KeNako's wonderful facility and a number of them have booked already for the Summer Camp in December. As always, new friends were made and fond memories will linger and hopefully bring some, if not all, of the youngsters back to George in years to come.
