New Monte Christo Retirement Village
The spectacular view of the ocean.
SOUTHERN CAPE BUSINESS NEWS - "The new De Caravel building creates a warm and friendly impression. It really is something to be proud of."

At the Monte Christo Retirement Village, which is situated on the outskirts of Hartenbos in the Western Cape, the newly completed De Caravel opened its doors for the first time on 2 July this year.

The three-storey De Caravel building houses seven sectional title apartments, sumptuous clubhouse facilities and a 24-hour frail care centre. Breathtaking views of the azure Indian Ocean and the picturesque Outeniqua Mountains form the perfect backdrop to this prestigious new development.

The clubhouse has the look and feel of a five-star hotel - tastefully decorated with top-notch trimmings - and even features an on-site hair salon and library. A well-appointed lounge, dining room and ladies bar, all designed with chic interior finishes and furnishings, complete the picture.

The dining room, which can seat up to 44 people inside and 24 people on the veranda with its panoramic sea views, is now open for a Carvery on Sundays and function bookings. The scrumptious buffet-style carvery is already a firm favourite with residents, who joined developers and caregivers for lunch on the opening day.

One resident commented: "The food was outstanding, beautifully presented and the service excellent. We'll definitely invite our friends next time!"

Tucked away around the corner is the stylishly comfortable lounge, which is complemented by an elegant ladies bar, also available for function bookings. Two big screen plasma TVs will ensure that all avid sports enthusiast are catered for!
The De Caravel Frail Care Centre has also opened its doors to the first two patients. For guaranteed privacy and personal service, only 16 patients are accommodated in the frail care centre at a time. The patients are taken care of 24-hours a day by a team of skilled professional nursing staff.

There are four levels of medical assistance available to residents at the Monte Christo Retirement Village. The care system is designed to cater to a variety of needs, and consists of Basic Health Care, Home Care, Assisted Living and Frail Care.
The Basic Health Care service includes 24-hour on-site medical response, an emergency ambulance service and the Personal Emergency Management System (PEM System). Both Home Care and Assisted Living services are available, and include all basic health care services, as well as meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping and daily nursing, all in the privacy of one's own home.

"An internet and e-mail system is installed in every dwelling unit, with an advanced security system boasting a Personal Emergency Management System installed throughout the estate."

The PEM System consists of an electronic device carried by each resident on their person. The PEM System alerts both the nurse's station and loved ones in case of emergency, giving GPS co-ordinates of the person's location anywhere on the globe, as well as the person's medical file. This state of the art system is available exclusively to Monte Christo residents.

The newly completed Frail Care Centre boasts world class facilities equipped to international standards, with high tech monitoring systems consisting of closed circuit cameras and smoke detectors in every room. As an added touch of luxury, each room has its own flat screen TV with a range of DSTV bouquet channels to choose from, and gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape.

All residents of Monte Christo may make use of the De Caravel Clinic for general consultations, or simply to have their blood pressure checked or to have minor wounds attended to. There is also a day care service available to non-residents above the age of 50.

Mark Teuchert, a partner at Monte Christo Healthcare (Pty) Ltd, explains that although the care centre mainly focuses on residents of the Monte Christo Retirement Village, their services are also available to any non-residents above the age of 50.

"We would like Monte Christo to be the first choice for senior citizens in the area - with peace of mind that our clients will be treated with dignity and respect."

Accommodation at the Monte Christo Retirement Village comprises a wide range of dwelling types from freestanding houses to sectional title apartments.

All houses and apartments come standard with spacious built-in cupboards and satin chrome finishes throughout. Kitchens are fitted with a four-plate electric hob, oven and extractor filter. All houses and apartments feature wheelchair-friendly showers with built-in seats.

There are a total of 43 freestanding single residential stands in the Monte Christo Retirement Village, of which 31 are still available on a plot-and-plan basis. There are five housing types to choose from that cater to individual preferences regarding the size and layout, number of bedrooms, bathrooms and garages. A selection of three different architecturally designed sets of finishes for tiles, cupboards, carpets and granite counter tops are also available.

Purchasers are, however, encouraged to add their own personal touch to customise the design of their homes, should they so choose, and to create a special look and feel in line with their own personal tastes.

"In absolute luxury: this is how seniors can spend their golden years at the prestigious new Monte Christo Retirement Village."
