House demolished while occupied

KNYSNA NEWS - A Knysna couple, Jurie and Marietjie Human, allegedly had their Lelieskloof home demolished by developers while they were still occupying the house.

The traumatised couple claims that possessions were left on the street where criminal opportunists stole what they wanted, and that part of the ceiling collapsed on Marietjie's head while she attempted to salvage some cloting from the doomed house.

These events are part of an ongoing, bitter saga between the occupants, who bought the house in 2004, and developers who claim that they are the legal owners of the property. The developers allege that the eviction and demolition were executed in accordance with the law, but the Humans have resorted to legal assistance to prove the contrary.

While the entire truth of the matter remains shrouded, certain allegations have surfaced to cause some alarm - most notably that the property had been sold for a paltry sum by the Knysna Municipality to the development company, which counted among its members certain officials serving on the then Knysna Council.

The battle continues.
