KNYSNA NEWS - The organisers of the Ross Taylor Surf Contest 2012 are urging locals to enter this charitable event taking place on the weekend of August 10 to 12.

"Over the past three years all expectations in terms of funds raised and entries to the event, have been exceeded, and this is only thanks to a dedicated committee of loyal friends and supporters, who give so freely and voluntarily to make this event happen," explained Nicky Goodall, event committee member.

The annual entries to the contest have grown from a mere 70 entrants to a record 215 contestants in 2011 "making this the largest entered surf contest in South Africa", explained Goodall.

The Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) contingent became a welcome added element to the contest in 2010, and the SUP SA committee, have since been looking at making this a SUP-sanctioned event, broadening participation in the event and strengthening the message of "fun and love through giving". Goodall explained, "It is fast becoming the 'competition to be part of ' as far as the surfers are concerned. And of course, it means that Ross gets to live through us all over again, as we enjoy the special vibe of this unique event."

She gave her assurance that, throughout the competition weekend, there would be beach activities for the whole family, including a fun run/ walk and sandcastle building competition. The big benefit bash will be on the Saturday night (August 11) and will include live bands, DJs, an auction and lucky draw prizes to ensure that everyone can be part of the fun, share the love, and support Hospice, which does so much for others.

In conclusion, Goodall reminded the public of the event's slogan, 'Fun and love through giving', and said, "To live in the sprit of giving ensures your blessings will be greater than we can imagine."
