KNYSNA NEWS - The three-day RE:CM 200 mountain bike challenge kicks off on June 15 and promises not to disappoint.
The race, in support of the Knysna Sports School, caters to those mountain bike fanatics whose schedules don't allow the 20 training hours per week required for intense racing, but still want the opportunity to share in the adrenaline rush of a mountain bike stage race.
Although the RE:CM 200 is also fit for hardcore riders, its focus is on providing a fabulous introduction to stage racing for the medium-to-fit rider.
As Louise Wilson, one of the organisers, puts it: "The 200 offers you an average of 70km per day, which is a massive difference from the 100km per day of the 300. The 200 is enjoyable, less strenuous, offers magnificent views and a great single track. A lot of the riders have complimented us on the fabulous route and I can honestly recommend the 200 if what you are after is an awesome race, but not quite as competitive as the 300 held in February."
Highlights of the route include: a ride through the Knysna Elephant Park, the Homtini Gold Fields, Wittedrift village, Harkerville, and participants will also be able to catch a glimpse of the Big Tree and the Brackenhill Waterfalls.
The RE:CM 200 offers early morning coffee and rusks, all lunches and dinners, two water points, full medical backup, technical backup for bicycles, daily out-of-town starting points (Knysna Elephant Park, Tottie's Eatery and Harkerville Forestry Station), with the same finish daily at the Tapas Bar on Thesen Island Harbour Town.
