KNYSNA NEWS - "Hoe gaan dit met jou?" These were the first Afrikaans words German volunteer Felix Poggemann (19) learned when he arrived in South Africa from Neu-Isenburg in August 2011 to join the team at Sinethemba until September this year.
Sinethemba Youth Development Centre in Khayalethu South will celebrate its ninth birthday this year since its establishment in 2003. For the past seven years international and local volunteers have been playing a major role in the running of different outreach programmes at the centre.
At the same time, it provides an unforgettable and life-changing experience for volunteers who come from First World countries.
For local volunteers, their involvement confronts South African society's usual passivity and laissez faire attitude and encourages young people to mobilise and take action to improve their own lives.
