Western Cape exceeds 34 000 NSC passes

WESTERN CAPE NEWS - The Western Cape has exceeded 34 000 passes for the 2011 NSC examinations after another 804 additional learners passed their NSC examinations by writing the supplementary exams.

This has increased the overall pass rate in the Western Cape to 84.7% (up from the 82.9% prior to the supplementary exams).
According to the Western Cape Education Department, "the number of passes in the NSC examinations is arguably more important than the percentage pass rate, as it is a far more accurate reflection of the health and progress of the system. It reflects that more learners are being retained within the system and more are passing the NSC examinations than ever before."

Candidates who have yet to receive their results via the post can also call the WCED certification/examinations division to obtain their results by phoning 021 467 2000.

A total of 45 981 candidates have currently registered for the 2012 NSC examinations (This figure is expected to change slightly due to reasons above) This is already 4 720 more candidates than the previous year.

The date of the 2012 NSC exam, according to the National Department of Basic Education, is Monday 22 October 2012.
