09:00 (GMT+2), Sat, 12 May 2012
KNYSNA NEWS - The 2012 Knysna Speed Festival promises a week jam-packed with fast cars, classic cars, go-karts and even 4x4 adventures, to name but a few.

The highlight of the festival is undoubtedly the Renault Simola Hillclimb, also referred to as the King of the Hill Shootout. This race sees an assortment of exciting cars, from nostalgic greats of a previous era to state-of-the-art exotics of the current technological world, testing both man and machine on the exciting climb to the Simola Golf Estate.

The Hill Climb will be split into two events this year.
The Classic Car Friday (May 17) will see classic racing cars, built before 1974, competing for honours.

Today (May 12) and tomorrow (May 13) some of the fastest cars in South Africa will do battle to see who is quickest up the Simola Hill. The field is limited to 80 cars driven by some of the best drivers in the country.

Many well-known drivers will be taking part in this, one of South Africa's premier motor sport events. Shrosbree added that the organsiers had received great entries for this event, such as Ferraris, Porches and a Lamborghini.

The Slot Car Challenge introduces the younger generation to the challenge of motor car racing via a small-scale format which has a strong following in Knysna. The races are always fun and the enthusiasm of the competitors is great to watch.

The Knysna Speed Festival is not just about high-speed racing cars, it also offers exciting opportunities to those who love the outdoors and enjoy testing themselves and their vehicles offroad.

Sunday and Monday, May 13 and 14 of the festival week will be dedicated to 4x4 enthusiasts.

The 4x4 Challenge tests the offroad skills of both driver and vehicle in tough terrain with daunting obstacles. This is an event for standard and modified production vehicles.

Participants and spectators alike can also enjoy the breath-taking views from the Simola Golf Course during the Knysna Speed Festival Charity Golf Day on Thursday May 17. All proceeds from this event will be donated to charity.
