The 2016 TransCape MTB Cycle Race got off to a cracking start on Sunday February 7, with three international women riders making their intentions known early in the seven-day stage race from Knysna to Franschhoek. After leaving Knysna’s Waterfront at dawn, in near perfect cycling conditions, it was formidable Swiss mountain biker, Esther Süss, accomplished British-born road rider, Sharon Laws and South Africans Fanie and Johan Venter and Billy Stelling who made the first move in the 109km stage one route to George, breaking away from the field at the 20km mark.
