South Africa's first wooden fat bicycle was introduced with much excitement at the Knysna Timber Festival this weekend. The festival, which took place from November 11 to 13, was an affirmation of the theme "Timber is our nature", and the many displays of wood and how it is used in Knysna was a testament to how important wood still is in this town. The bike is called the Outeniqua Fatstix in honour of the indigenous timber (sticks) that grows on the Garden Route and on the southern slope of the Outeniqua mountain.
