Mandy de Jongh, beekeeper of Sunbird Nursery in Harkerville outside Plettenberg Bay, scooped the international award in the 2015 Black Jar Honey Tasting* contest in Asheville, North Carolina. Her honey went through to the World Honey Tasting competition where it placed second. Mandy's precious product was also the Knysna Honey Tasting winner last year. To add a bit more sweetness to her latest win, she donated the $1 500 (about R24 000) prize money to the Center for Honeybee Research located in Asheville, NC.
