KNYSNA NEWS - A prisoner attacked a prison official, thought to be a warden, at the Knysna Correctional Services today, Sunday 18 February.
The incident took place at about 15:30.
The prisoner used a sharpened instrument during the attack. The injured official was treated in hospital.
It is not known what provoked the attack and this will be investigated.
A charge of assault has been opened by the Knysna police.
The Public Order Police (POP) unit was deployed from George to assist prison authorities and order has been restored at the prison.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesman for SAPS Southern Cape, Captain Malcolm Pojie.
